We have always aimed our software at 'normal' hardware so SuperView runs well on modern Windows machines.
So far we have found no issues with Windows 11
The latest versions run on Windows 10 Home or Pro see this page for details.
Windows 7 is also supported
Windows 8.1 is no longer tested but should be OK see this page for details
Windows 8 and Windows Vista are no longer tested so we can offer no support. However you may be able to upgrade your version of SuperView for use on a new machine - keep the dongle!
To a large extent the requirements of the operating system are as important as our software's although the graphics chip is important.
If you are a current user and are considering upgrading your hardware please see the separate information
If you have an existing computer system please let us know its details and we'll let you know its suitability. The following is intended as a brief guide and relates to our programs only.
Virtually any x86 processor that can drive the Operating System well
including Intel Atom processors and AMD A series
ARM processors (eg Qualcomm Snapdragon and Windows SQ) are not currently supported - please contact us.
As with any graphics program the faster the processor the better but we do aim to allow our program to run on 'normal' current machines and have automatic procedures that mitigate speed issues. So Intel Atom (Bay Trail) processors are suitable.
see also graphics card/chip
Windows 11 - Microsoft insist on a minimum 8G RAM
Windows 10 - Microsoft recommend minimum 2G RAM for 64bit Windows. However 4G is definitely better!
Windows 7 and 8 / 8.1 - Microsoft recommend minimum 1G RAM
Windows Vista - Microsoft recommend minimum 1G RAM we suggest 2G RAM
Less than 200M required!
The operating system will require considerably more (Windows 10-1903 requires 32G)
User data uses more space but is still not demanding
Customer Design files vary but normally 500k or less, usually approx. 250k each
Saved JPEGs are usually 1Mb or less
Since Windows Vista a graphics processor (GPU) has been required to run the "operating system". Of course like the main processor these can vary in features and speed especially relating to 3D pictures.
Many Intel main processors now include an in built graphics chip whilst separate graphics chips are also common. Usually separate GPUs are better than in built. We do try and avoid needing specialist hardware so the GPU does NOT have to be of high gaming quality nor expensive CAD quality.
Accelerated 3D
Some of the latest features of the program require facilities in the accelerated graphics chip so please see the link.
Each version of Windows has a "minimum" resolution and SuperView has been able to work within that resolution.
SuperView 7.3 supports high dpi screens.
Windows 10 and Windows 8/8.1 has a split screen mode that can be useful please check with Microsoft for the current minimum resolution for this feature.
Supported by Windows (inkjet or laser) colour or monochrome, A4, A3 etc.
Microsoft Windows 11,10, 8.1, 8 , Windows 7 (32 or 64bit) , Vista,
Windows 11S or 10S will have to be "unlocked"
Windows for ARM (11 or 10) is not currently supported - please contact us for details.
Windows 8 RT is not supported.
Microsoft Windows XP* - we have phased out support - please check with us for details.
Windows 2000, Windows Me or 98 are not supported
Apple - we do not support running directly on Apple's operating system. However please see the link Apple
Linux - we do not support running on versions of Linux
Chrome - we do not support running on versions of Google Chrome
Android - currently not supported but please call.
SuperView is a client based package (ie it does not need a Server nor is it aimed at Server OSes)
*Some optional features and utilities required Microsoft Net 4 => XP SP3 as a minimum. Microsoft has stopped supporting Windows XP so current versions of SuperView do not support XP.
SuperView25 requires a driver to allow it to communicate with the dongle.
Desktop and laptop PC's not phones
One available USB port (1.1, 2 or 3) supported by the OS to connect the USB dongle. The dongle has a full size USB (type 1/2) plug (aka male) connector. Convertors from micro USB and USB-C should work.
We currently suggest a keyboard but please see the notes on Windows tablets
An increasing number of PCs are not equipped with a CD/DVD drive so we provide our software via electronic distribution (eg Cloud).
Actually Installing the software does not require any internet connection and once installed the software does not require a connection (nor is a CD required).
NB the dongle is required to use the program.
OpenGL driver: a custom version for your hardware/graphics chip will probably be supplied with your hardware. Updated versions maybe available through the hardware supplier. A 'default' driver is part of Windows but it does not support all features of SuperView25 (the program will still run).
Sentinel driver: supplied as part of the install. For new SuperView systems version 7.0 is a minimum but 7.5 is suggested and maybe required depending on the OS.
Direct emailing from within programs uses the simple MAPI system - browser based email accounts (gmail, hotmail etc) may not directly support this feature.
Microsoft's free LiveMail supports simple MAPI and can be used for some of the browser based email accounts - please visit Microsoft's website both for the download and detailed specification. There is a version for XP (SP2) and one for Windows 8, 7 or Vista
An Abode PDF reader is required to view some of the documentation. Adobe Flash Player together with Microsoft Internet Explorer was used to provide some of the 'help' facilities but that has been phased out..
SuperView25 does not require an internet connection but updates will be provided electronically rather than by CD.
These are machines using the ARM processor which is NOT Intel compatible. However Microsoft are trying to ensure there is a facility to run "normal" Windows 10 programs. Currently these machines are quite rare and the hardware is not generally available in the UK. Please follow this link for more info and contact us for the current situation.
There were a range of low price Tablets and Laptops running Windows with Bing that are in general suitable for SuperView25. The same basic requirements apply as for any other Windows PC/laptop but please read the separate notes for further details
The "original" low cost PCs, often laptops, sometimes with solid state drives were often called Netbooks.
Some very early ones came with a version of Linux and are not suitable. Some later ones come with Android others Google Chrome. None of these are suitable.
Versions that run full versions of Windows (10, 8, 7) are in general suitable for SuperView. In other words the requirements are similar to other machines.
Many do not have a CD/DVD drive - please see the comments here.
These do NOT run Windows of any sort but use Goggle Chrome and are therefore not compatible with SuperView25.
These are the opposite of Netbooks being high powered, full specification machines with one exception a CD/DVD drive. Again they often have solid state drives. To allow these machines to be ultra slim they often do not include a CD/DVD drive - please see the comments here.
These are very general and ill defined terms. Provided the hardware meets our general requirements (eg Microsoft's Windows) then SuperView should run. Please ensure there is an available USB port for the dongle. Please see this page on Windows Tablets
Android or Apple Tablets are not suitable for SuperView25
The above is a guide only and does depend on exact situations (e.g. Windows with Microsoft Office and SuperView running concurrently will require substantially more memory etc to run well than SuperView on its own)
Microsoft, Windows, Apple, Adobe, Goolge, Chrome etc and their products
